As economical, supply chain, and labor challenges continue to pressure businesses, CIOs are challenged with providing solutions that drive significant modernization and decrease CAPEX spend. The obvious decision: Cloud or On-Premises, or a Hybrid of the two.
Cloud? On-Premises?
The COVID-19 worldwide pandemic has rocketed the need for modernization and automation. For business leaders, it all comes down to data. Doesn’t it always? Manage the value, manage the security, manage the actual data. And what about public cloud, hybrid cloud, on-premises? We can’t forget about ransomware, the dreaded ransomware attacks, and disaster recovery… what in the world is a Log4j? Clearly, it’s not that easy when the data moves and lives in a multitude of places. So, now, leaders are pressed with not just choosing cloud, on-premises, or hybrid, but what workloads should reside where?
Newsflash! There isn’t an easy answer; this is not a one-size-fits-all. Move the wrong workload to the cloud, and costs will skyrocket. But moving the right workloads or using the cloud to easily stand up resources to test new business initiatives is a winner.
And then there is the whole CAPEX vs OPEX discussion, which we’ll not delve into here, but suffice it to say that as the US economy nears a recession, reducing CAPEX is a very attractive financial model for most businesses.
