Combined donation funds will provide 18,000 meals to families in need

TALLAHASSEE, FL – Mr. Rick Kearney, CEO of Mainline Information Systems, announced today that he is providing a major donation to Second Harvest of the Big Bend in support of the food bank’s mission during the holiday season.

Mr. Kearney is donating $2,500 to Second Harvest under Bank of America’s Give A Meal program, which provides an additional $2,000 in matching funds. This combined donation enables Second Harvest to provide 18,000 meals to families in need.

“Hunger and poverty go hand-in-hand. Hunger is a shocking, growing problem in our own community. A low income family needs daily access to a healthy diet with nutritious food,” said Rick Kearney. “Second harvest is and has been a cornerstone of ending hunger in the Big Bend and I’m honored to support them.”

Hunger is a growing problem in this region. The rate of food insecurity – a key measurement of hunger – has fallen in Florida overall, but unfortunately it is rising in the Big Bend. Currently, one in five adults doesn’t know where his or her next meal is coming from, and one in four children in our region faces the same challenge every day.

“We are very grateful for Mr. Kearney’s generous donation. Hunger doesn’t take a holiday, and Second Harvest is working to make this season a little brighter for people in need,” said Rick Minor, CEO of Second Harvest of the Big Bend. “With the help of such caring community members, we can provide nutritious, delicious meals for needy families in the Big Bend.”
